Solar PV System installed!

The day has arrived and the solar PV systems for each of 1012 Manigault's units are now installed and ready to go! Thanks to Seth and Dave from Appalachian Energy Services, our 5.8KW system (2.9 for each townhome) is now ready to serve 60-90% of its future owner's energy needs. This coupled with the solar hot water is sure to reduce this homes energy needs even further.

Because we had been planning to do this even before we had a design for the house, we were able to align the project's footprint in such a way that the mounting locations for the the solar PV panels would be facing true solar south. This will maximize the full efficiency of the panels themselves.

With lots of builders now claiming to be going green I'd really like to pose the challenge to them to actually do it. Recycled countertops and water reclamation are great, but if you're not addressing energy consumption and/or production you're really not doing anything about the problem facing the planet. So builders, put your money where your mouth is and be willing to take a little out of the bottom line to put something in your houses that is truly environmentally beneficial.

Seth sweating...making it happen.

Oh man, that looks nice. I can't think of many things that look better than a roof capped with pristine blue pv panels.
